Help us realize the first edition of our new series of nature books about the natural resources of Curaçao! (LINK: https://gofund.me/54ab26ec )

Sun, sea and sand… but above all a lot of biodiversity. The advertising of the island of Curaçao usually does not go further than the standard pictures of white beaches with blue water, but the nature on the island is surprisingly diverse and colorful. With more than 550 species of plants, a relatively healthy coral reef with all living organisms on it, dozens of reptiles, amphibians and mammals, hundreds of species of insects and other organisms and more than 250 recorded bird species, the island is a source of nature stories. Nature stories that have appeared in the newspaper every 2 weeks for the past 10+ years in collaboration with the local Curaçao morning paper Antilliaans Dagblad (AD) in the form of a center page written by Michelle Pors-da Costa Gomez and illustrated with photos by Michelle and Leon Pors .
A selection of these nature stories, in text and lot’s of images, are now being bundled together in the first of a new series of nature books about the nature of the island. ‘The Birds of Curaçao’, gives a glimpse into the world of the birds living and visiting the island with photos by Michelle Pors-da Costa Gomez and Leon Pors and contributions by Anita di Moulin, Rob Wellens, Carel de Haseth, Job Stumpel, Henny Klein Klouwenberg and Hubert de Palm.
The book ‘Vogels van Curaçao’ contains 320 pages with color photos and text from the series of selected middle pages of the AD and also some new additions, and is a reference work for anyone interested in the nature of the island in general and the birds. in particular. The book is written in Dutch, but the Papiamento version is being planned.
300 books from the first edition are reserved for donation to all primary, special and secondary schools on the island, educational institutions and libraries. To achieve this, we are looking for sponsors who want to donate to be able to do this. With the above amount we can, in addition to the printing, also pay for the transport of the books to the island and their distribution to the schools.

Nature books about the island’s wildlife are relatively scarce on the island. Many of the previously published books on reptiles, plants and other elements are no longer available. However, there is a great need for quality reference work for schools and educational institutions. By making this book available to these institutions, we want to partially fill the existing gap.
The book will also be available in bookshops on Curaçao for the general public.
We hope to not only increase knowledge about the nature of the island with this publication, but also to create a curiosity about the treasures of the island, in addition to it being a reusable reference book for anyone who wants to know more about the nature of the island . The intention is to distribute the books to educational institutions on the island in October 2021.
